Live Ship Movement Map

Live map of Channel traffic. This Marine Traffic project map allows you to view the movement of AIS (Automatic Identification System) equipped vessels around the world. Click on a vessel for more info and photo. Note: The map must not be used for real world navigation/safety.

• The data is collated by The Marine Traffic project from radio data received via a vessel's AIS (Automatic Identification System), the main purpose of which is to help avoid collisions.

 • All vessels over 299GT are required to carry an AIS (and many others do so by choice), which automatically transmits their name, position, speed, course and other details.

• The Marine Traffic project website gives more information and options including the ability to track the movement of individual vessels, including some fishing boats (e.g. the Harbour-based Royal Sovereign).
