▼ Live map of Channel traffic. This Marine Traffic project map allows you to view the movement of AIS (Automatic Identification System) equipped vessels around the world. Click on a vessel for more info and photo. Note: The map must not be used for real world navigation/safety.
• The data is collated by The Marine Traffic project from radio data received via a vessel's AIS (Automatic Identification System), the main purpose of which is to help avoid collisions.
• All vessels over 299GT are required to carry an AIS (and many others do so by choice), which automatically transmits their name, position, speed, course and other details.
• The Marine Traffic project website gives more information and options including the ability to track the movement of individual vessels, including some fishing boats (e.g. the Harbour-based Royal Sovereign).
