► Walking for
Wellness programme - Pevensey Bay walk added

Eastbourne Age Concern organise three weekly walks that you are
warmly encouraged to join.
The first is an invigorating short walk of under a mile along the
seafront from the Lifeboat Museum to the Pier. Meet at the
Lifeboat Museum (opposite Carlisle Road) on Mondays at
10.00am (except Bank Holidays).
The second is the three mile circular walk from Sovereign Harbour to
the Sovereign Centre and back. Meet outside Bright Ideas on The
Waterfront at Sovereign Harbour on Thursdays at 10.00 am.
A new, weekly, half-hour walk around Pevensey Bay started this week.
Meet outside HSBC Bank, Richmond Road, Pevensey Bay at 10.45.

All the walks finish at a cafe and are a fantastic way to find out
about the health benefits of walking, meeting new friends and taking
in the uplifting scenery.
Please remember to wear comfortable shoes, dress appropriately for
the weather and bring some water. If you are worried about your
health, please make sure you check with your doctor before
increasing your level of activity.
► Drop-in Event for parents at SHYC
-
Helping young people with special needs and disabilities to face the
challenges of growing up will be the focus of a free event later
this month.
The drop-in event, for all parents across the county, is being held
at the Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club in Eastbourne on
Wednesday, 24 March from 1-5pm.
There will be a wide range
of information covering such issues as education, training and
employment options, health support services, leisure and social
opportunities, and housing and independent living advice.
The information event has been organised by East Sussex County
Council’s
Parentlink service and will bring together under one roof a host
of information from a wide range of different groups and
organisations.

► Forthcoming St Wilfrid's Hospice
fundraising events - St Wilfrid's are staging a number of
events this Spring, including an Easter Egg Hunt, Bluebell Wood
Walks (great for photographers) concerts and, if you're really brave,
a sponsored 10,000 feet freefall parachute jump!

► An evening of dance
and music on Wednesday 17 March at 7pm to 9 pm - With
displays performed by
The
Natural Fitness Centre, including ballet, tai chi, Pilates and
belly dancing this event is being held in aid of the Pevensey
Haematology and Oncology Ward, Eastbourne DGH, and to raise awareness
of pancreatic cancer.
The venue is the Causeway School, Larkspur Drive, Shinewater,
Eastbourne, BN23 8EJ. Light refreshments available and raffle.

On Sunday 21st March Eastbourne Sports Park invite
you to rise to the challenge and complete your Sainsbury's Sport
Relief Mile on their purpose built athletics track at Cross Levels
Way. You can even choose how far you go – 1, 3, or 6 miles –
whichever’s a challenge for you.
Whether you run, jog, hop or walk, it's a great way to raise money
for a fantastic cause and get fit at the same time. Enter the Mile,

►East Sussex High Sheriff to visit
Harbour -
Sovereign
Harbour Social Club have invited the East Sussex High Sheriff to
take coffee with them at their regular Wednesday meeting being held
on the 24th of March at 10am.
Please note that due to the high volume of attendance experienced on
the visit of the Mayor and the Queen's Representative, any
non-members should attend on a Wednesday before the18th and register
with one of our Club Officers. Otherwise non-members arriving on the
off chance to find a seat, may be disappointed.
► Eastbourne Festival 2010 dates
- This year the festival runs from Saturday 3rd April to

► Harbour police street meetings in March -
Street meetings give
you the opportunity to meet your local neighbourhood police
constable and PCSO to discuss any concerns you may have, seek advice
or simply say hello.

On your bike! Rides for the over 50s -The Pedal
East Sussex programme of rides is suitable for those already cycling
as well as those returning to cycling after a break. Consequently
the programme begins with shorter rides and builds up to longer
ones.
Each ride begins and ends at a train station and many include both on and off road stages. They take place from April through to August. All rides have refreshment stops; certainly at the end. Click here... for leaflet.
► Under Ground Theatre becomes
Eastbourne's newest stand-up comedy venue.

On the evening of the second Saturday of February (13th), March
(13th) and April (10th), Barnstormers Comedy will introduce three
top comedy acts from the London circuit, usually Comedy Store and
Jongleurs regulars, in the intimate surroundings of the 145 seat
Under Ground Theatre.

► Race for Life -
On June 6th Cancer Research UK's Race for Life
Eastbourne events take
place at the Sports Park, Cross Levels Way at 11am and 2pm.
The runs are for women and are both over a distance of 5km. You will
need to sign up pretty soon for this as both runs were quickly
over-subscribed last year.

► The annual flood defences forum and exhibition for 2010 - This will take place at the Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club on the afternoon of Wednesday 7th April. More details later.
As usual there will be space for other organizations to mount displays, so please contact Pevensey Coastal Defence if you are interested in having a display.
► Under Ground Theatre (UGT) events
for Jan to Apr 2010 announced - In the new year Eastbourne's Under
Ground Theatre is again putting on a tremendous range of professional drama,
jazz, chamber music, and much more. And all at bargain prices!

► Forthcoming Golf Events
- Following their successful 250th
event that attracted 32 players, Heffle Golf Society, operating from
Sovereign Harbour, have announced their programme of fixtures for
the winter period. Courses to be visited include Sweetwoods,
Pyecombe and Royal Eastbourne.
