Pevensey Festival and Food Market Association

The Pevensey Festival and Food Market Association is a voluntary group that, through its events, supports local producers and artists, and raises money for charity.

The markets remaining this year are the Charter Market on June 24 -- so called because the King John Pevensey Charter of 1207 gave us the right to hold a fair on and around the Nativity of St John, which this year is Sunday June 24.

Parking in the market car park is always free for the markets, and overflow parking - also free - has been arranged at Haven Farm.

Then there's the Summer Market on July 29 (because it's summer!) and the Festival Market on Bank Holiday Sunday August 26. That weekend is Pevensey's busiest with St Nicolas Church Flower Festival on from Thursday through the weekend, and the vicar's fete at Marsh Hall on the Saturday.

Stalls are hugely varied, and there'll be more than 20 of them on June 24. There's plenty of jam and Jerusalem from the WI, a very popular barbie with Chilley Farm burgers and sausages, local smoked meats and fish, dairy produce, farm-fresh fruit and vegetables, the best pies in Southern England, local artists' work, and freshly milled flour from Stone Cross windmill.

Plus, rides for the children, lucky dip, tombola and whatever else we can dream up..

The stallholders make their own profits (the market idea was to boost business for local producers) but any money from pitch rental and other fund raising goes to local charity. This year it's St Nicolas Church, which has to raise £100,000 by Christmas.

A different chariry will be picked next year.
